Love One Another pink.png

My Favorite Bible Verses

Why? Simply because His Word does not come back empty. My Bible is filled with my scribbled hand-written notes, circled and underlined favorite berses and dates from milestone events from my families lives. Such life-changing wisdom is not found elsewhere. These verses also provide an excuse to practice my hand lettering, a habit influenced by my Dad, who had beautiful handwriting. He let me "help" him hand-letter many signs for the village of Roxbury as child. I can still see his steady hand holding the flat brush filled with red oil paint, and his simple instruction: "just do it like this."

Field Flowers

Wildflowers bring me to my knees! So many wildflower memories bring me back to Roxbury in the Catskill Mountains, my childhood home. My brother Ernie teased me that I was named after Queen Anne's Lace.  Flashbacks include using "paint" from Milkweed pods and Dandelions, making Daisy chains and rescuing Johnny Jump-ups from the forest. Ernie & I gathered wild Phlox along an old wooden bridge for children's Sunday at church. Have you ever tasted fiddlehead ferns or dandelion wine? If you hold a Buttercup under your chin it means you like butter. I goess I do ...

FROG logo.png

F.R.O.G. Fully Relying on God

The truth is, creating oil paintings of Frogs started my re-set and my artist's journey. But that's another story. This collection is from the children's book, Fredrick the Frog ... a Life Cycle Story*, which I illustrated for my sweet Auntie Ida. But there's more to the story - F.R.O.G. - a group of hospice nurses whom I met while working at a national homecare company introduced me to the phrase. It touched me in so many ways.  (* the book is available on Amazon)

Comfy Kitchen

Remember Grandma's kitchen? It was all about comfort food, family recipes, baking together, and wearing hand-embroidered gingham aprons. Also - trying new recipes, which sometimes were not so successful! My friend, Dawn & I baked our first "from-scratch" cake. An almond joy cake - we set it on the front porch to cool while we went ice skating on the pond in front of my house. When we returned to ice the cake we discovered a piece missing, and the remains nailed to the wall, hard as a rock. True story. My Dad had a great sense of humor. Sigh.

Christmas in the Catskills

My childhood memories would not be complete without mention of Christmas in the Catskill Mountains. Church services, candle lighting & caroling, wrapping presents, band & choir concerts. Homemade cakes & decorating sugar cookies, tree decorating, snowflakes, paper chains, and delicate ornaments. Stockings filled with an orange, an apple, some ribbon candy, a mysterious gift, a carrot, and a piece of coal. Reindeer footprints in the snow. Making snow angels. Cutting the tree in the forest. Ice skating on the pond with a bonfire. Sitting on Santa's knee. Hand-knitted wool hats & scarves with tassels. Time with family and friends. I'm dedicating this collection to my mom - always with .... hugs!

Birds & Berries logo COLOR_transparentbkgrd.png

Birds & Berries

Songbirds are plentiful in the Catskill Mountains where I grew up. The Bible reminds us that His eye is on the sparrow ... they never go hungry and stay warm in the winter. And ohh ... the wild berries you can find in those mountains! So yummy and such variety! But you need to know where to find them. Maybe just follow the call of the songbirds? This collection celebrates the Catskills birds and the berries they feast upon.

Cadbosaurus Logo.png

Cadborosaurus & Friends

This collection is dedicated to my Grandpa Gibson, who was a photographer on Vancouver Island. He published a little brochure with a poem and drawings about the day he saw a Cadborosaurus posing for him inside of Mill Bay. This is my version of what this mysterious ancient creature looks like and brings to mind a childhood memory of  my mom re-telling the legend as I longed to see it for  myself.

Back on the Farm

There's just something comforting when I think back in time af the rolling hills in the Catskills, dotted with red barns, maple syrup sugar houses, rows of corn, fresh cut hay, farmer's markets and tons of cows. I believe there were more cows than people in Roxbury where I was born & raised. I'm not sure if that's the case today. This collection is dedicated to the hard-working farmers, the animals in all their glory and the lush fields of grans and produce.

Scottish

It all started with the bagpipes. My brother, Ernie, played them - in fact, he owned a vast collection of bagpipes from several countries. We shared a love for making music in our younger days, but he was the music-maker. We can trace our famliy history to the Gibson's, a branch of the clan Buchanan. Hence, our fascination with everything scottish - thistles, Scotty dogs, Scottish dancing, the Celtic cross. This collection is dedicated, with loving memories, to my brother Ernie.
